Custom-built food trailers delivered to Charleston, Columbia, Greenville, Myrtle Beach and the rest of South Carolina. Every unit ships with commercial-grade equipment and a finish built for the SCDA permit. Financing available.
In South Carolina your permit does not come from the health department. It comes from the state Department of Agriculture (SCDA), through its Retail Food Safety division. Plenty of operators lose weeks knocking on the wrong door.
A Retail Food Establishment Permit from SCDA, obtained before you sell food retail, direct to the consumer. You file the standard retail food establishment application plus a supplemental form specific to mobile food establishments.
Here is what sets South Carolina apart: the mobile food establishment is defined to include the associated commissary and the mobile units. The commissary is not a separate box to tick — it is part of the same permit.
Annual inspection fees apply on the SCDA fee schedule. Payment goes online or by mail to Retail Food Safety, 350 Ballard Court, West Columbia, SC 29172. Questions: retailfood@scda.sc.gov or 803-896-0640, Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.
Requirements and fees change. Confirm with SCDA before you invest.
We build in Atlanta and deliver the finished trailer to South Carolina. We also deliver to Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, North Carolina and Virginia.
Because the commissary is written into the same SCDA permit here, it is worth having it settled before we build. Tell us where you plan to operate and we will walk you through what you will need before you sign anything.
More than just a food trailer, we build the engine of your business. At Prime Star, we deliver expert craftsmanship that redefines how your brand stands out, cooks, and performs on the road.
